Hey Soulsters

OK - it's a big week(end) in planet Soul Song so I'm going to dive straight in.  As all the Tour reminders only apply to some of the membership, I've put all that info at the end of this email but it is important, so if you're coming on tour, please read!

Let me know of any queries!

Thanks

Jaq

THIS WEEK'S MUSIC

First off, congratulations to Rhiannon on her first go at teaching a full song up in Cairns.  By all accounts it went really well and was well received.

Cairns - Our FNQ crew will continue learning Good Old A Cappella with Rhi and then Sarah will pick up Another Day from where I started it last week.
Brisbane - Both Brisbane crews will tidy up Good Old A Cappella as we learned it very quickly, will start work on Another Day and possibly a little on Bridge Over Troubled Water.

VIRTUAL CHOIRS - WAVING THROUGH A WINDOW & GOOD OLD A CAPPELLA

We have two songs open for submissions are the moment:
  • Waving Through A Window - due by end of Monday 23 May (an extra day because I'll be catching up after the weekend away).
  • Good Old A Cappella - due be end of Sunday 29 May

EXPANDING THE FAMILY - A NEW G'DAY CHOIR!

An opportunity recently presented itself for me to launch a daytime choir, something that I've been thinking about for a while. So the tribe is growing!

Our latest choir is going to meet at Bulimba Community Centre on Fridays from 9.30-11.30am, the same time and place as a previous choir, Morningsong, which recently had to shut down.

I'm going to hold taster sessions on Friday 27 May and Friday 17 June before starting regular Friday rehearsals weekly on Fridays from 15 July.

At this stage I am not sure whether the group will fall into pattern with our three existing choirs, learning the same repertoire on the same schedule or whether they will travel their own journey. I'll confirm that once I've held the taster sessions.

I'll be posting about the new group on Facebook, so feel free to share the content with anyone who you think might be interested and available or to click on the flyer to download and share a large version.

CASSOWARY COAST TOUR

SUNSHINE COAST TOUR

Ok - deep breath, here we go!!

WEATHER
  • The weather is not looking good up there so please ensure you bring umbrellas / rain coats etc. The main time you're likely to need this is on Saturday when getting from your car to the venue in Montville as there's little parking very close by.
  • Bite Markets are definitely going to be open. There could be some showers but there are pockets of cover that we can use when performing and eating. Just make sure you have an umbrella / rain coat with you just in case.  The worst thing that can happen is we sing in the rain!
  • The Maleny pop up is the performance most likely to be affected.  If we have to cancel this due to bad weather, I'll advise everyone on Saturday morning
  • On Sunday morning, the markets will go ahead regardless of weather and we will be undercover if it is very wet.
LAST MINUTE UPDATES
  • If I need to get last minute messages out about change of plans due to weather, I won't send emails out to the entire memebrship as this could be very annoying for those not going.
  • I will there ONLY POST UPDATES In THE SOUL SONG BRISBANE FACEBOOK GROUPhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/soulstersbrisbane.
  • If you are not in the group, please join it now
  • If you are not on Facebook, please try and buddy up with someone and ask them to keep you updated of any last minute changes.  If you don't have anyone who can do this for you, contact me and I'll organise it.
UPDATED ITINERARY
  • An updated itinerary is available here..  This has all the info to replace the Nambour workshop and also includes new information on best parking in Montville and the song order for Saturday night.  Please note that there is no planned order for any performance other than Saturday night. I will decide on the order as we work throguh
WHAT TO BRING
  • Your lyric book - if you want to use it when performing
  • Your Soul Song Member name badge for the workshop and when socialising - as Geebung and West End members are coming together, this could be a useful way of getting to know new people
  • Performance clothes - as per the details in the itinerary.  Obviously coats, scarves, beanies (esp Soul Song ones!) are fine for outside performances as we're going to be lucky if the temperature gets above 20 degrees.
  • $10 cash for the wokshop (can pay by card but cash will be easier)
  • Umbrella/rain coat
  • A sense of adventure and sunny disposition (we'll need whatever sunshine we can get!
